ABOUT ROCK + ROWAN

Why the name?

The Rowan is a native tree found all over Eryri (Snowdonia). It is associated in folklore with femininity, but it is also known as the 'Lady of the Mountains', because it is beautiful but also hardy and strong, thriving in the harsh mountain conditions of Eryri.

We think this perfectly describes our mission to prove that women, female-identifying and non binary folks are also badass and thrive in the mountains! Think mountaineering and folk often picture a rugged manly figure, but we want to help show that all genders, abilities, shapes and shades, have their space and their place in the wild.

There is no one image for what a climber, mountaineer, hiker looks like. We're here to welcome everyone into the outdoors and to celebrate big, beautiful, exhausting, wonderful days in the wild together!
